About Adoptions: How can I adopt?

How can I adopt? | Adoption Assistance

Did you know that more than 85% of the foster children in care who become eligible for adoption are adopted by their Foster Parents?  That's right, adopting through DFCS is possible, and AFPAG supports its Foster Parents in their efforts to adopt.

How Can I Adopt?

There are children in Georgia who need to be adopted by loving parents.  Many of them have special needs, which may be minor, not life threatening.  Many are part of sibling groups, which we all want to keep together if at all possible.  So, open your heart and home to these precious children.  There may be a child waiting for you!  Check this site often for adoption updates.

In the meantime, if you're interested immediately, here's how you can find out more:

  • Call your local county Department of Family and Children's Services and tell them you're interested in adoption.
  • Ask for the Resource Development person there who can provide you with specific information about DHR adoptions
  • Visit the Office of Adoptions web site, or the DHR web site to learn more, www.dhr.state.ga.us and go to the adoption information section
  • Finally, ask about both foster parenting and adoption.  Like we said, more than 85% of the children in state care who become eligible for adoption are adopted by their Foster Parents.  Makes sense, doesn't it?
